  My top albums of 2009 (per Last.fm). This does not include iPod listens. Also, I am unsure how this is accurate as I only discovered Fanfarlo a month ago. Anyhoo.

  Top 10 Albums of 2009

  I’ve decided that my previous Twitter rundown of my top 5 albums of 2009 (done early December) was not only premature, but inaccurate. I have since discovered some gems and need to revise the list. Given that nobody even responded to my original tweets, this shouldn’t be a problem. So here is my new list (now a top 10) albums of 2009:

  10) Owl City - Ocean Eyes

  9) Hockey - Mind Chaos

  8) Flaming Lips - Embryonic

  7) Freelance Whales - Weathervanes

  6) Fanfarlo - Reservoir

  5) Pearl Jam - Backspacer

  4) The xx - xx

  3) Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - (self titled)

  2) Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca

  1) Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

  A few notes: I think Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a truly amazing record, and my unabashed love for it has been obvious since it was released.  Bitte Orca is also one of the best albums I’ve heard in years, and could be number 1 were it not for les hommes de Paris.  As for the inclusion of Owl City, well, I understand it is mock-worthy, but I again note that one is unable to feel anything other than ‘happy’ while listening to this collection of electronic songs.  Oh, and I realize that Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective also made (critically acclaimed) records this year, but those just didn’t do it for me.
